Jazz Dance Society “flow”

Hello, everyone! We are “flow” - a jazz dance society.

In our society, you can dance to any music you like! We sometimes dance jazz as the name suggests, but we mainly dance to Japanese music.

We have practices twice a week either in the university or in a facility in Bunkyo-Ku (an area where the Ochanomizu University is located). Trial fee for the first session is 1,000 yen and the membership fee is 10,000 yen for a half a year. In addition to it, members need to pay for “flow” live concerts.

Here are the two major “flow” events:

1. Summer Live Concert

The biggest event in our society is our summer vacation Live Concert (held around late August or early September). For this event, you can experience not only dancing but also engage in the production process, including stage production, stage costume, performing arts and so on. You won’t be able to experience the same sense of satisfaction elsewhere! Join us to have an exciting and fulfilling summer!

2. Inter-college Dance Competition

The Second event is the dancing contest we hold with our sister societies in other ten universities. The “flow” has won the first prize in the past and last year received the third prize. Enjoy this wonderful experience with us during your precious university days!

You may think that your short-term stay in Japan might be a problem, but worry not! We previously had an exchange student who joined our “flow” live concert. Below is her comment:

After joining “flow”, my everyday life became really fun. At first, I hesitated to join the society because I was the only foreign student among Japanese students and worried whether I could get along well with them. But what I noticed after joining it is that I didn’t have to worry about it at all. Everyone in “flow” accepted me and was very kind to me. Besides dancing, we had a chance to socialize and dancing with them was a great moral support during hard times. It was a really fun experience for me. My dance skills were not that good but I really want to thank everyone who helped me practicing dancing. Thanks to all of you, I improved my dancing skills. Everyone always smiled encouraged me to continue to dance. I always become emotional when I watch the videos of the dance. Very good days, weren’t they? I even engaged in the stage production and it was an unforgettable memory. The instructor, senior students, my friends, all of you took very good care of me. Thank you very much! I hope I can go back to Japan again someday. I miss you all. Please always smile, everyone!

It seems that she made a good memory in Japan. We were also very moved given such a wonderful message!
